So I have been a Freelance Makeup Artist for just under a year now and still hadnt got round to writing my first blog until now Uh Oh!!! At first i was too sure what i should write about and how, for i am no scholar in English Grammer but give me a Makeup brush and ill see what i can do. So i was undecided on what i should write about and after some careful thought at 11.30pm this evening maybe a introduction of myself would be appropriate.
Im Charlene a Freelance Makeup Artist who graduated from DFMA (Davinia Fermis Makeup Acadamy) in Brighton in Ap.ril 2014. Since graduating i have been lucky enough to have met some fantastic artists (I will share these in later blogs) and hope 2015 will bring me more opptunities that i wish to seek!!
I have always been a theatrical person getting involved in theatre groups onstage and off getting involved in set building creation but it wasnt till i worked as an extra on the film 'Wild Child' directed by Nick Moore, oh the embarassment now as i now look back, but if you have seen the film and noticed in one of the last dance scenes theres a crazy girl in a Dorothy Costume, yeah thats me! So it was here i fell inlove with being behind the camera, the ones who help create this set, the fantasy, the fairytale!!
It was then duing university Studying FIlm ofcourse i got my opptunity working as a runner on a feature film production 'The Thompsons' Directed by The Butcher Brothers and yes my name is in the credits woop woop! Being a gory feature, which is right up my ally being a horror fan and studying it greatly at university ( my Dad has always said i should of been a Surgeon with my fascination of the body) i noticed some of the great SFX Maekup Work and then DING a lightbulb moment this is it this is my calling!
Although i love the idea of creating monsters and injuries i wanted to learn everyday film and Tv Makeup, well as much as i can really but i had no idea where to start nor not alot of money and pushing mid twenties i wanted to start building my porfolio as soon as possible, enter DFMA. It was here i had the pleasure meet the amazing Lisa, Jane and AJ all working Makeup Artists to learn the basics of Beauty and SFX which once graduating i feel i have developed and gained a confidence that i never thought i would have especially in Beauty. Wow i have gone on and this is only in breif!
Then of course i have had a fantastic load of experiences this year which i will share with you in the upcoming Blogs, first one will be about my first EVER Photoshoot!!
I hope this is the start of a beautiful Blog Relationship!
