Judgment Day

After graduating from DFMA it was not long after I had moved back home to Faversham I luckily landed my first Collaborative Photoshoot with the lovely Photographers Amy Kolsteren and Jade Greenbrooke with Emily Isis Hardisty modelling.
Of course this only happened through the power of setting up a Facebook Page and signing up to several creative groups online I had the chance to meet such talented people and of course break the ice of getting my first shoot as a professional artist.
Being Amy’s personal project we discussed via email ideas of solely her vision with some of my own creative input as well as the arrangements for the day. Amy wanted a classic vintage look with a twist of playing with pastel colours, I now got a little nervous for pastels were something I had never tried before and on Emily’s beautiful pale complexion I wasn’t too sure on colour matches. So I then researched pastels and tried out a few ideas on myself as I wanted this to confidently work and prove myself as an artist.
Judgement Day, yes it was shoot day, kit was packed, checked, checked again, sat nav at the ready, breathe, let’s do this!
On arrival I was greeted by wonderful smiles and excitement by the team, a windy harbour where I was parked there was a lovely small greasy spoon cafe, with its regulars having their builders tea and coffee they kindly let me set up and on looked whist I applied Emily’s makeup.
To begin I used a No7 Matte Primer followed by MAC Studio Fix Foundation and Derma Concealer Pallette to hide any dark circles or blotchy areas, I also mixed this with a little MAC White Face/Body to create a slight highlight around the eye area then powdered. On the eyes I applied a base of Nougat from Sleek Palette ‘Natural’ I then applied light pastel blue from Sleek Palette ‘Bright’ and built upon this colour till I was happy. I experimented then with the yellow (same palette as the blue) applying it to near the brow area creating a highlight and contrast in colour making her eyes pop! MAC Crème Liner Black for the Classic Flick with MAC Zoom Lash Black Mascara then for a dramatic finish to the eye I applied gradient lashes highlighting a flick at the corner of each eye. Brows MAC Brunette Pencil to create a sharp shape but not a block, I try to keep them as natural as possible with drawing hairs not a blocked shape. SLEEK Blush ‘California’ just above the contour line MAC Red Lip Liner, also when using red liner I tend to colour in most of the lip with the liner, this helps hold colour Sleek ‘Paris’ Lip Pallette which also gives more of a punchier look. Once finished I applied MAC ‘Light’ Powder to seal the deal. To finish the vintage look I suggested adding a Victory to finish of the look which I think worked a treat and gave it that extra style.
Shoot Time! First location was an abandoned Railway a beautiful filmic scene followed by the Pier which was a bit chilly! On Set the team worked fantastic together Emily certainly proved herself as a model listening to both photographers and showing her talents as a professional. Along with keeping an eye on makeup and hair faults an top ups Amy and Jade are both extremely professional and I couldn’t have asked for a better team too have had my First Ever Shoot with!!
Wow!! I went on a bit wasn’t expecting that, next time I will keep it brief but I wanted to tell you as short as possible on the process I take and what kind of products I have been using when I began and show a development of what I like and continue with and to see what I just can’t get on with.
