This shoot was through recommendation I got an email from a fellow Makeup Artist Sammy Jo about possibly assisting her on a big shoot at the weekend, the theme ‘Alice in Wonderland’. I was so excited firstly just did the SnowQueen and now I get to be involved in theatrical shoot of one of the nation’s greatest tale. After back and forth chatting I and Sammy split the cast half and half, I took on the March Hare, Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit. I wanted to challenge myself as much as possible with these designs, putting effect I learned at DFMA into practice. I searched Google and Pinterest for ideas taking into consideration of what can be achievable for just two Makeup Artists and Six big characters. I designed my face charts and brought any additional SFX pieces that I would need. It was an early shoot so excitedly I left my house with plenty of time but on arrival I realised there was no other cars, peculiar, so I waited but time was gradually creeping on me and I started to get a little panicky so I tried to call Anthony the photographer, no answer, facebooked Sammy, no answer so I decided to call the studio who was lovely and was confused as he was sure there was no booking , so in regard to no one answering my calls or messages I looked through messages and found a message about Anthony house address, so I headed over and yes I finally saw everyone and feeling guilty for being half hour late, so I cracked on set my kit up introduced myself to the lovely Sammy and begun on my ‘Queen of Hearts’. Model Sarah Quinn Robbins was great to work with as her attitude was ‘go for it!’ I wanted to try a great design that has been used and copied several times over the internet but it’s the heart face shape drawn on the models face, after using No7 Primer I drew a heart shape using a light lip liner to get an outline, use a light pencil possibly flesh tone so it blends in with the foundation. Next I applied the inner heart, a shade paler than Sarah’s complexion and then the outer part of the face a shade darker both MAC Studio Fix Foundation followed by MAC Translucent Blot Powder to seal the deal. Looking back and how harsh the sunlight was on Sarah’s face I would of exaggerated the darker foundation by possible going either two or even three shades darker otherwise you lose the heart effect. For theatrical effect I drew a bold brow with MAC Coffee Eye Liner, for her eyes I used Sleek Palette Bright concentrating on the blue exaggerating the colour towards the brow line followed by MAC Crème Liner (My Favourite) and MAC Eyeliner then MAC Zoom Lash Mascara with flicked fake eyelashes. For Sarah’s lips I prepped the lip with Carmex followed by MAC Red Lip Liner filling in majority of the lips then filling it in with Sleek Reds Paris. To finish the look I draw a heart in Red Lip Liner and a beauty spot in the Coffee Eyeliner, bouffant the hair and secured a crown completing the look.

‘White Rabbit’ For my Model I applied the base same as the Queen but matching my models complexion with the foundation. I think applied a little Pink eyeshadow using the Sleek Bright Palette and then MAC Crème Liner on the upper Lid and then MAC Zoom Lash Mascara. I then applied fake hair around the face, using spirit gum I took clumps of hair gently taping it to the spirit gum which will then grab a few hairs at a time. To finish off using Snazaroo Facepaints I drew a rabbit looking mouth and filled in the eyebrows.

‘March Hair’ Again prep of Primer and foundation matching the skin tone, No eyeshadow or liner, all done with Snazaroo FacePaints, Having a base of grey I applied lines of browns, black and whites breaking up the flatness of colour and creating texture. For the fur I placed it in contouring areas to give of a sculpted look similar to hares, I also applied hair to her brows and gave her some fake eyelashes and natural lipstick MUA Shade 11 to finish the look.

Overall the shoot went ok and I met a great bunch of people, it was rushed and I would have done things differently but in a positive look I learnt a lot of what needs to be enhanced and what works and what doesn’t also double check location to not get LOST!!
